Spring Run Looks Like It’s Started?!

Reports over the last couple of days are very positive; and suggest that the Spring run of Codling has begun.

I’d like to focus on the “new” beaches at Holland-on-Sea where a number of reports have shown that good numbers of healthy codling weighing 2-4lb are now being caught.

Fish the night tides for your best chances of a good haul – with the flood tides been producing the better results. Try not to read too much into needing Fresh Peeler Crab or Fresh Black Lugworm (Of course they “sometimes” do make a difference, perhaps in a match fishing scenario where you need an added “edge” over other anglers) Because common Blow Lug are pulling in the fish just as well plainly fished on their own.

The rig of choice I would personally go for would be a long range Pennel Rig – Ideal for loading up big baits, clipped down neatly and streamlined to help you reach as much distance as possible.

Work has now finished on the beaches at the far end of holland-on-sea (Brighton Road, etc) and public access is now back open.

Lets hope that we will be bringing these fish in for another couple of months!

Any questions or advice please feel free to pop into the shop, or give us a ring. I would say that if you do have a trip planned then it is always best to book your bait in advance to avoid disappointment, as demand is high at the moment with the excellent fishing we have been getting.

Good Luck, and remember to let us know of your catches!
